News about Frome Textile Workshop
We continue to welcome new members, support beginners and provide the chance for those with weaving experience to develop their craft on a range of equipment that they may not have room for at home.
We are currently applying to become a registered charity, which we hope will help us in finding larger premises so that we can expand. We are rapidly outgrowing the 1200 square foot space we rent at the Steiner Academy, and are on the lookout for premises of 1500 – 2000 square feet in the Frome area. If you know of such a space, we would be very happy to hear from you.
We have also decided to change our name to Frome Weavers Spinners and Dyers to better reflect what we do. A new website will be coming soon.
If you are interested in weaving, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Thank you to all those who visited our sale in December. We will be holding our next sale of work at the beginning of July to coincide with the Frome Independent Market.
Woad to This
Local resident Carolyn Griffiths recently visited the workshop to bring us a copy of her newly published book "Woad to This and the Cloth Trade of Frome". The publication of this beautifully illustrated book is the result of four years of research on the local history of the cloth trade and the use of woad for making dyes.
