News about Frome Textile Workshop
We continue to welcome new members, support beginners and provide the chance for those with weaving experience to develop their craft on a range of equipment that they may not have room for at home.
Many of our members are exploring new areas in their weaving. Our explorations include using a variety of yarns from linen to lurex and even recycling old video tape. Others are exploring different weaves including honeycomb, overshot, rug weaves and double cloth. These explorations are producing a variety of sample pieces and some interesting finished pieces. We all enjoy sharing our new found knowledge, watching the progress and seeing the finished results.
Three of our members are due to attend the summer school of the Association of Guilds of Weavers Spinners and Dyers. We look forward to hearing about what they have learnt.
If you are interested in weaving, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Thank you to all those who visited our sale in July. We will be holding our next sale of work at the beginning of December to coincide with the Frome Independent Market.
Involvement with the local community
Recently the children from one class of our host school, the Steiner Academy, visited our workshop to find out more about weaving and to have a go at a variety of weaving and spinning techniques as part of their local history study. They took away some sample pieces they had all contributed to.
